Beautiful Creatures: It will have you spellbound
I have just finished reading the book, ’Beautiful Creatures’ by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I must say I really enjoyed the book. I also want to state if you enjoyed reading the Twilight Series or any paranormal story then you should give this book a try.
The story takes place in the South Carolina in a little town called Gatlin. The town has remain unchanged for years. The town still lives in the Confederate Era. Everyone that lives there has lived in Gatlin their whole life. This also is true of Ethan Wate. His family has been apart of Gatlin since before the civil war. The most exciting things which happens in Gatlin are the civil war reenactments.
Ethan has lost his mother and his dad has locked himself in his office writing the Great American novel. Amma Treadeau is their housekeeper and has been raising Ethan since he was younger. Amma is the local tarot card reader and her family has been taking care of the Wate family for generations. Ethan starts having dreams about a girl who he can’t seem to get out of his mind.
One day a new girl moves to Gatlin and begins to go to the local high school, Stonewall Jackson High causing an uproar with many of the Gatlin Town’s people’s lives. She is an outcast and it doesn’t help when she moves in with her uncle the town shut-in, Macon Melchizedek Ravenwood. Ethan realizes Lena Duchannes is the girl from his dreams and tries to stay away from her, but fails terribly. They finally start to build a relationship and Lena lets him in on her family secret. Ethan is then let in to a world, he never knew existed. A world which only exists in the shadows. Ethan and Lena try to find away to be together with everything that stands against them being together.
This book was quite enjoyable. I really enjoyed that the book was told by Ethan. It is great seeing a male lead telling the story. The description in the book of the plantations and the town was well done. It got me picturing the scenes before me as I read. The characters were all quite funny and very realistic. I loved Ethan’s old crazy aunts.
The story keeps me wanting to continue on. I had a very hard time putting the book down. The book also grabbed you right from the start which is a plus for me. I don’t like reading a book that can’t catch my attention from the beginning and this book does just that. It keeps you wanting more. I say read it and you will enjoy it.

I have been working on a book review - review of an anthology, actually - for the past couple of weeks. I know how challenging it can be to write a quality review.
What you have done is very balanced, sincere and informative. I appreciate the way you take the time to explain the storyline and key dramatic elements, without going overboard. It is a gentle review by someone who apparently really cares.
Nice job! If ever I need a book professionally reviewed some other time, maybe I should come to you...
